Its less about the number, and more about the maturity. In the UK its against the law to have sex with anyone under the age of 16, if one of the participants is 16 or over… There are several other degrees of this law which I’m not gonna go into… But essentially, people under the age of 16 tend to be less understanding about the kind of relationship lets say a 16 year old would be looking for. For example, a 14 year old wouldn’t understand in the same sense what relationships are about, as the 17 year old does, hence the reason these laws are made. Someone of the age of 16 or over will look for something deeper within a relationship, whereas the 14 year old will often still be in the ‘school days lovey dovey’ stage. So in my view, screw the number in the sense that society looks at it, but pay VERY close attention to the kind of effects it can have on your relationship with someone. :)
